About us.
The Haitian American Veterans Association, Inc. (H.A.V.A.) was founded by Fritz Fils-Aime 12 years ago. Fritz has been an active member of the veterans' community for 14 years, organizing parades and events to honor veterans. Inspired by a suggestion from the Assistant Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, Fritz decided to establish his own organization. One year later, on the steps of City Hall, surrounded by the mayor, politicians, and veterans' organizations, Fritz officially announced the beginning of the Haitian American Veterans Association. Since then, H.A.V.A. has been dedicated to supporting Haitian American veterans and their families.
H.A.V.A. is committed to maintaining, improving, and guiding veterans' way of life, nationally and internationally, through advocacy and a network of support and referral services. We guide veterans to the Veterans Administration, social services, and other programs that are in place for them. We assist veterans who face challenges such as homelessness, reentry after combat, nutritional needs, and many other veteran-related issues. In addition, H.A.V.A. develops educational and health workshops in various communities.
